The National Bank of the Kyrgyz Republic warns: cases of telephone fraud have become more frequent!
Using various methods of deceiving citizens through phone calls, fraudsters aim to steal your money from accounts or issue you an online loan for subsequent transfer.
How is this done?
First, a person is called by a supposed employee of a commercial bank and informed about a leak of personal data or the issuance of online loans by third parties in his name. Then a fake employee of the National Bank (or another government agency) is connected, who, under the pretext of saving money, offers the victim to transfer it to a safe, protected account. In this case, the numbers of the attackers may be fake. To be convincing, they can send a fake ID or other document with the signature of the management of the National Bank and the corresponding logo. In this case, the victim of the fraudsters performs all operations on the transfer or registration of online loans themselves, following the instructions of the fraudsters.
How can you protect yourself?
1. End the conversation if you receive a call from imaginary employees of the bank, the National Bank or other government agencies who report a leak of your personal data or an unauthorized online loan in your name. If you decide to continue the conversation, do not turn on screen sharing during the conversation, do not share your personal (confidential) data (TIN, codes, PIN codes, etc.), do not confirm any information about you. Thus, it is better not to answer video calls from unknown numbers in messengers at all, and also do not follow unverified Internet links from strangers.
2. If you have doubts about the phone call, you must call the official numbers of a particular bank listed on the website, in mobile applications, or go to the nearest bank office;
3. Remember that banks and the National Bank do not call regarding unauthorized online loans or leaks of personal data and do not send employee IDs and other official documents via instant messengers.
What to do if you have become a victim of fraudsters?
If you realize that you have become a victim of fraudsters, you must immediately report this to the bank, ask them to block your card or account, and then urgently file a complaint with law enforcement agencies.
REMEMBER: fraudsters' schemes may differ, but the main goal is to mislead you so that you believe them and transfer money from your account. From the moment you transfer your funds, the fraudsters' goal is achieved.
